About me

Hi there,

I'm Kerry Brown and am the Programme Leader for our National Certificate in Carpentry programme at MIT. I have been teaching at MIT for over ten years now after building for a number of years. Every two years or so I need to challenge myself so the online learning has come at the right time for me to improve and re evaluate my teaching.

I got interested in elearning 2-3 years ago and now use it for my Year 3 apprentices at night at MIT. Teaching carpentry online has been a truely challenging but rewarding opportunity for me and I am continuously looking at more innovative and fun ways to engage the students through this medium.

My learning styles profile (attached) shows a definite visual learning style. As a practical learner I need to see and do instead of reading. My students are the same and this is why I am presenting my online material to them with plenty of visual content and interactive tasks to keep them engaged and connected to their learning.

I have two choice kids, Todd (11) and Zoe (9 going on 19), who keep me young when I get to see them. I enjoy alternative/ punk rock music (The Cure's in town in two weeks time), keeping reasonably fit, and playing the guitar when I can. Also a Warriors fan.

Cheers

Kerry
